“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world;
indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
~Margaret Mead

Whole-school efforts provide ways that we can help those around us, and the world at large. We have participated with wonderful organizations and their programs like UNICEF: Trick or Treat for UNICEF, American Heart Association: Jump Rope for Heart, and Heifer International. This year, proceeds from our spring benefit project will help a local shelter and food pantry.

Children often take up a cause important to them and they are encouraged to research ways that they can make a difference. This year, we have had child-led projects for and contributions to the Red Cross for Haiti and the Capital Area Humane Society.

Our school has taken many steps in the “Green Schools Initiative” and plans to become an official Green School by this fall.

Upper Elementary students visited the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and Motown Museum in Detroit for Black History Month.
