The Lower Elementary LevelAs a child moves into this level of education, it can be considered a passage from the concrete world he or she has known, to one of abstract concepts previously unnoticed by him or her. Children at this level seek to understand the universe and their place in it. They are better able to reason and to ask and search for answers to their questions. These classrooms are designed for the 6 -9 year old. Three age levels in a classroom provide children an opportunity to connect with others at their own developmental level, not just with those who are the same numerical age. Collaborative learning and problem solving naturally take place with older children modeling as mentors for the younger students. Lessons given by a trained Montessori teacher direct the children toward activities which help them to develop reasoning abilities and learn the arts of life. |
